The Biggest Surprises About Those First Five Days After I Came Out

Over the last couple of years, I've joked with friends that I'm pretty sure I could write a whole book just about my first 5 days as an out-of-the-closet gay father of 3 kids who writes children's books about God.

Because it was a whole lot.

Of course, some of the hoopla I expected.

For instance...

THE MEAN EMAILS TYPED LIKE THIS!!!!! WITH MISS PELLED WERDS!!! AND BIBLE VERSE QUOTES!!! AND THE UTTER EXCITEMENT THEY DISPLAYED ABOUT MY FUTURE IN HELL!!!! AND EVERY ONE HAD SO MANY !!!!!!!!!!! SO MANY !!!!!!!!!!!!

I expected those messages. And I received a lot of them for sure.

But other parts of the experience surprised me. Like I've mentioned before, I didn't know that I'd be called a sodomite over and over md over again. Who knew that word was still so trendy among certain sects of Christianity?
