A question I get a lot is this: what did I tell my kids? And another question I get: how did I tell them?
I told them the truth; I told them I was gay.
On a Saturday morning, the first one in June of 2020, all of us sat in our living room together and Jessica and I shared with them our difficult news.
Prior to that conversation, we consulted with our therapists and also two different child therapists. We wanted to do the best we could despite being in the middle of our most difficult season.
So, we had a family meeting. I told the kids I was gay. Our youngest--he was 5 at the time--asked what was gay. And I told him what it meant to be gay.
