Look, I have zero problems with erotically-charged spiritual imagery. Sure, it doesn't always work. But sometimes it does work because many of the elements of human love-making offer a powerful and intimate portrayal of God's mystic love for humanity.
This is just one more latest example of complementarion bullshit. In case we needed more examples. 🤬🙄 Can someone please perform a well-check on this man’s wife? (I’m not kidding.)
Ummm.... this is a perfect reason why people leave church and never come back. Good god. I feel sorry for Butler's wife. Even if she agrees with him, I still feel sorry for her.
My face is kind of frozen in a look that says "wtf." Ugh.
'Spiritual vaginas' 🤣🤣🤣 Oh my. I haven't read this excerpt but not sure I need to after you summarised so succinctly! Thank you for the laugh (even though there is so much that's not funny in all this!)
Thank you for reading this for us. So gross. So misogynistic while believing themselves to be chivalrous and honorable. "A woman receives" is the kind of imagery that makes me shrivel up
I’m a little bit confused as to why this is problematic. I really want to understand. I would think that the image the author uses is implicitly one of consent and love. Isn’t Song of Songs full of erotic imagery? And hasn’t it historically been used as a metaphor for God’s relationship to his people (the Church)? Mind you, I’m out, proud, gay and Catholic. I did have a lot of Theology of the Body and “complementarian” stuff thrown at me from a young age and I probably still have that in me somewhere so when I read the excerpts they didn’t ring off alarm bells other than the typical awkward Evangelical way of theologizing sex.
By this logic, gay male intercourse is a metaphor for ecumenical work - one divine presence seeking to come into the good graces of another divine presence. Works for me!
You had me at "still stroking his theology."
My face the entire time you quoted anything….🥴

THIS is why I’m here. Bold is a good look for you. But also what a great way to describe it all. That imagery for sure ruin the mood 😬😂

Lord Have Mercy, Lord Have Mercy. 🧐😫
👏👏👏 applauding your witty commentary, not the cringe-fest. Well written. No means no, penis-driven “faith.”
Ummm imma out my phone down real quick before i comment some inappropriate things Hahahhaa

What in the world! So no pleasure for women? you’re right...nothing good comes out of his warped words.
This reminds me of a book suggested to my ex-husband and I when we were newly married that referenced him as “king” in the marriage. 🙄
